It’s no surprise that the White-collared lemur is one of the top 5 rarest primates as it has one of the most restricted ranges of any Eulemur species, the total habitat remaining within this species’ range is less than 700 km².
It’s greatest threat is the continued conversion of rain forest habitat to agricultural land. It is trapped easily by hunters during the fruiting seasons and hunted with shotguns, snares and slingshots particularly when it comes into coffee plantations.
