Although the closest turbine would be just over 1km away, the blades will be clearly visible for much of the zoo

WIND FARM THREAT!
Linton Zoo is now facing an immediate threat.
Enertrag, a wind farm developer, has now submitted the planning application to build eight 125 metre high wind turbines with the closest being approximately 1km from Linton Zoo. Whilst we fully recognise the threat that climate change poses to all species living on our planet, breeding endangered species is sensitive work at the best of times so anything that might upset our animals must be considered very carefully. We have kept an open mind since the original proposal but increasing evidence show that these large turbines may have a seriously adverse effect on our animals and our breeding programmes. Enertrag have said that they know Elephants, Cassowary and Okapi would be affected and also our local wildlife will be threatened too.
Until we can be given a 110% guarantee that the proposed turbines will not be detrimental to Linton Zoo we have to oppose the development.

Annual unlimited admission tickets are available, allowing unlimited access for 1 year, or treat someone to a fun day out at the zoo with a day pass.
A few years ago Linton Zoo provided a home for some customs seizure of baby Indian Star tortoises, a species highly prized by collectors and endangered in the wild. Now fully mature we are delighted that they have successfully bred, with their first 2 tiny hatchlings emerging on 8th March 2009. Big cats are always a great favourite. At Linton Zoo we have Black leopard, African leopard, Snow leopards, African lions and Amur tigers. Viewing windows in some of the enclosures make it possible to get as close as a whisker. Here children meet one of our magnificent tigers. On 22nd May 2008 we were asked to take a Costa Rican Elephant beetle Megasoma elephas which had been found in a box of bananas at a fruit importers in London. We have now found a mate for Billy, see 'News' for more information. Billy's arrival created quite a bit of press interest, click on the following links to see more BBC news video , BBC newsCHILDRENS BIRTHDAY PARTIES

Our male snow leopard "Centurio" has recently been paired with a beautiful young female born at Dublin Zoo. The two have been successfully introduced and it is hoped that the pair will produce cubs next spring.......see 'news' for more on this story.Several species of tortoise can be seen at Linton Zoo, including two species of giant. Tortoises from tropical regions do not hibernate so even during the winter months our herds of giant tortoises can often be seen grazing outside. Pictured are Vicky and Agnes, two of our Aldabra Giant Tortoises. See how Linton Zoo supports conservation of tortoises and turtles through the ShellShock Campaign
Linton Zoo is well known for its success with difficult and delicate exotic birds. This beautiful Toco toucan is just one of many bird species which can be seen when you visit. The Species Support Scheme (formally Animal Adoption Scheme) is ideal as a gift idea. Sponsoring an animal at Linton Zoo is easy and helps support the conservation work we do. The most sponsored animals include "Oboe" one of our Southern ground hornbills, "Ruby" and "Rumble" our mother and son Red ruffed lemurs (pictured here) and "Rico" one of the toco toucans.
